Your Official Guide to Fall Skincare and Beauty

Your Official Guide to Fall Skincare and Beauty

In case you haven’t heard, it’s officially fall—aka, my favorite time of year. When the leaves start to change and the weather finally cools off, I always get super excited to step back into a healthy, clean, consistent routine.

For me, fall has always been the time to set new goals and get back on track. With the lazy days of summer long gone, I try not to get overwhelmed with a slightly busier schedule filled with activities. My kids are already back in school and soccer is in full swing, which means we spend most weekends hustling and bustling more than ever, but at least we’re getting some fresh air and exercise! But it also means we’re almost always eating on the go or preparing food that’s ready to eat when we get home.

Enter: my slow cooker.

These fall crockpot meals by @theeverygirl look to-die-for (especially her chicken pot pie soup!). It doesn’t hurt that I absolutely love changing up my meals in the fall—soups, pumpkin bread and anything apple is a must (speaking of, @savorynothings has some awesome fall pumpkin crumb muffins and great tips for feeding a busy family!).

True, I could go on and on about cooking—but today, I want to focus on the thing I love most of all: fall skincare recommendations (heck, I’ll even throw in a few makeup recommendations, too!).

While I’d never recommend making huge changes in your routine, it’s very important to focus on your complexion’s hydration and fading discoloration (aka, hyperpigmentation) caused by sun damage and breakouts. Now that the sun is less intense than the summertime, fall is a great time to incorporate more potent AHA products or a glycolic peel from your esthetician!

My favorite way to incorporate AHAs into my routine is with a toner—use this with your regular skincare regimen after cleansing 2-3 times a week for about 8 weeks to see the most improvement and a more even complexion.

My two favorite toners are Glow Tonic by Pixi and Pestle & Mortar’s Exfoliate Glycolic Acid Toner:

As mentioned before, hydration is also a must after the long, hot days of summer. If you haven’t incorporated Hyaluronic Acid into your routine yet, the best way is with a serum. In addition to Hyaluronic Acid, you may want to double up on your face oil (start using it morning and night!) or add a heavier moisturizer at night. My favorite moisturizers are Lala Retro™ Whipped Cream by Drunk Elephant and CeraVe’s Moisturizing Cream!

Okay, so now it’s time for the fun part: makeup! These finds are perfect for that fall-to-winter transition.

So, let’s start with the eyes (my favorite!). For a palette that matches the leaves, try Aether Beauty’s Crystal Grid Gemstone Palette—ideal for apple picking, bonfires, late night cocktail hours and everything in-between!

And just because it’s fall doesn’t mean you shouldn’t stop wearing your SPF. Meet Supergoop’s Shimmershade: the very first eyeshadow with SPF 30, available in four shimmery shades!

Finish it off with Beautycounter’s Brilliant Brow Gel and mascara for a darker contrast against your natural, beautiful glowing skin. Check out my three fave mascaras below!

As far as your face is concerned, a tinted moisturizer like Supergoop’s Smooth and Poreless 100% Mineral Matte Screen is the best way to achieve an even, hydrated skin tone without completely covering up your beautiful, natural complexion (psst...bonus! It also contains SPF 40!). Then, top it off with Antonym Cosmetics' Baked Highlighting Blush—the perfect blend of gorgeous color and shimmer to highlight your cheekbones!

And last, but certainly not least—lips! Obviously, fall calls for darker, more dramatic colors for contrast. That’s why I love Kari Gran’s Lip Whip in Marsala (a stunning blend of a rich, sheer wine color and soft shine!) and Vapour Beauty’s Aura Multi Stick in Eros.

See? A new season doesn’t require a complete overhaul of your routine! All it takes is a few swaps here and there, and you’re autumn-ready.
