9 DIY Homemade Skin and Hair Care Recipes Straight from Your Kitchen Pantry

Just because we can’t get to the spa these days doesn’t mean we can’t continue doing spa-worthy skin treatments at home! In fact, pampering your skin with just a few kitchen staples is not only easy and comforting, but super healthy for your skin, too.
Here’s why: Using only simple ingredients limits your skin’s exposure to many unnecessary, irritating and potentially allergy-causing ingredients. This ultimately allows you to effortlessly nourish your complexion, without all the extra cr*p!
If you know me, you know I love simple, but better skincare. Keeping it not-so-basic allows you to get the most out of the ingredients that really count! So, I’ve found some of the best luxury spa treatments you can do at home with less than three ingredients each. Keep scrolling for nine of my life-changing DIY hair masks, face masks, scrubs, toners and more!

And if you’re one of the lucky few who don’t get breakouts (we’re not bitter, promise!), Greek yogurt is loaded with lactic acid which helps soften your skin and probiotics which helps soothe inflammation. You can’t go wrong here!

4. DIY Energizing Coffee Body Scrub for Dull Skin
Coffee’s more than just a hug in a mug—this magical bean is also amazing as a body scrub! Use this DIY recipe to help energize and exfoliate your skin in the shower. And for an added benefit, apply your favorite moisturizer or body oil after drying off to hydrate, soften and lock in moisture. Talk about one heck of a morning routine!

5. DIY Overnight Blemish Spot Treatment for Dark Spots and Acne Scars
Now that we’re transitioning into warmer days, you might have noticed your skin is a little out of whack! The good news? Those annoying pimples will be gone before you know it. However, as for the scars and dark spots they leave behind? This mask will save the day! Honey has incredible antimicrobial properties while lemon works as an astringent. Together, they’ll help lighten any post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation caused by a breakout!
Ingredients
- 1 tsp honey
- 1 tsp lemon juice
Directions
- Mix all of the ingredients in a small bowl or ramekin.
- Apply a small dab to blemish and allow to dry.
- Wear overnight and rinse off with warm water in the morning.
6. DIY Hair Detox Rinse for Damaged Hair
Yep, you’re reading the ingredients correctly—beer in hair! A little nerdy lesson for you: The malt and hops in your favorite beer are rich in proteins, which help repair damaged hair and revive volume. Not to mention, the sucrose and maltose sugars create the shine you’ve always dreamed of! Just make sure you let your beer sit out as long as you can. The flatter the beer, the less carbon dioxide. The less carbon dioxide, the better chance your shampoo will actually work!
Ingredients
- ¼ cup beer
- ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
Directions
- Mix all of the ingredients in a large bowl.
- Gently work the solution into your hair while in the shower.
- Allow it to soak for 5-10 minutes, max.
- Rinse out and cleanse hair with shampoo.
7. DIY Avocado Banana Conditioning Hair Mask for Dry Hair
Avocado strikes again! And this time, it brought along its nourishing sidekick: bananas. Rich in potassium, vitamin B6, vitamin C, magnesium and protein, bananas offer loads of nutrients to moisturize, hydrate and restore your hair back to health. Combined with the superpowers of avocado and coconut milk, this terrific trio will be your go-to when it’s time to level up your tresses.
Ingredients
- 1 mashed avocado
- ½ mashed banana
- ¼ cup coconut milk
Directions
- Mash and mix all of the ingredients in a large bowl.
- Apply to hair and leave on for 10-15 minutes.
- Rinse out in the shower and cleanse with shampoo and conditioner.
8. DIY Make-Up Remover
Let’s face it: make-up remover products can be expensive! Why shell out your hard-earned cash every month when you’ve got everything you need right in your kitchen pantry? Say goodbye to drying, wasteful wipes and hello to your clean, one-ingredient make-up remover: olive oil!
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp olive oil
Directions
- Cleanse your face by massaging olive oil into skin.
- Follow with a cleanser.
- Rinse with warm water and pat your face dry with a clean towel.
