Introducing The Good Day Face Cleanser—What’s Inside & Why You’ll Love It

This past year has been a labor of love for the Otto Skin Goods team. We’ve been hard at work creating the perfect face cleanser for your routine, and we’re excited for you to officially meet in-person this April. So, without further ado, say hello to The Good Day Face Cleanser!

What is it?

Our unique formulation of ceramides + antioxidant super berry oils deeply hydrates and protects your skin from damage, all while gently removing the dirt, make-up and pollution from your day.

What makes it so good?

The idea started with a concise list of ingredients: actives, super berry oils and low-allergenic lathering agents that will gently cleanse and hydrate your skin—without stripping its natural oils. Here’s why: Cleansing can be one of the most harmful steps for your skin barrier. The simple act of cleansing can deplete lipids, alter the microbiome, and reduce the skin’s ability to hold water. That’s why it’s essential to replenish your skin while you cleanse, and this cleanser was designed to do just that—to cleanse without drying or damaging the skin barrier.

What are the key ingredients?

We carefully selected each ingredient to make this gentle, yet effective cleanser a staple in your routine:

Ceramide Complex

The Breakdown: Vegetable-derived lipid concentrate consisting of ceramides III, IIIB and VI (2.5%), cholesterol (0.5%), free fatty acids & phytosphingosine (1%) that resembles the structure of the lipid barrier of the skin.

The Results: Helps to improve the appearance of aged skin by deep moisturizing effects and supply of ceramides (skin-identical lipids), promotes enhanced delivery and exchange of skin lipids, restores the protective barrier function of the skin.

Bonus: This complex is cruelty free and vegan. We also ensured that the ceramide complex was not preserved with phenoxyethanol.

Super Berries, Super-Charged

The Breakdown: Instead of simply adding plant extracts to our cleaner, we wanted to elevate the plant-based experience. So, we used berry oils, instead—specifically strawberry, goji, blueberry and raspberry. Oils are much more expensive than simply using a water-based extract, but they’re also more potent, hydrating and beneficial for the cleansing experience.

The Results: Berries are packed with antioxidants called polyphenols. These polyphenols are powerful enough to withstand environmental stressors and protect your skin against visible signs of aging (think: loss of elasticity, wrinkles and dullness). They can also help repair skin damage, leaving your complexion looking fresh, dewy and healthy. We chose these powerful super berries for our cleanser to keep free radicals at bay, restore + repair skin and revitalize it to a more plump, bright, youthful appearance.

Low-Allergenic, Plant-Based Lathering Surfactants

The Breakdown: During my years as a dermatology nurse practitioner, I worked specifically with patients suffering with contact dermatitis. Our clinic was designed to patch test patients with common skincare ingredients and then help them find products that don’t contain ingredients they were allergic to. One of the most common allergens we discovered was cocamidopropyl betaine. This one can be deceiving because it is derived from coconuts, which sounds natural enough, but is actually one of the most allergenic lathering agents commonly used in cleansers, hand soap and shampoo.

The Results: We tried many different surfactant combinations for this cleanser, but ultimately landed on a combination of three plant-based, low-allergic surfactants: decyl glucoside, coco glucoside and foaming apple amino acids. You’re going to love this low-lathering creamy gel! It cleans, softens and hydrates in one simple step.

This cleanser sounds amazing...can you tell me more?

Of course! For one, it’s simply preserved. We always have, and always will be, big advocates of properly preserving our products. We’re committed to finding the safest, most effective way to keep your skin safe and your products free of bacterial, mold and yeast. The Good Day Face Cleanser is preserved with ethylhexylglycerin + potassium sorbate—an effective, yet gentle and non-toxic preservative that’s safe to use every day.

In addition to our safe preservatives, The Good Day Face Cleanser also boasts a fresh scent. Although it’s tempting to ride the fragrance-free trend-train, we believe scent is something that can be uplifting and pleasant in your day to day (especially in a product you use every day!). A rinse-off product should be enjoyed, loved and—well, for us—smell good. But it should also be safe! Synthetic fragrance is filled with harmful phthalates, prone to causing skin irritation and allergies. So, we used natural flavor in our cleanser to give it a sweet, uplifting scent that’s safe enough to eat! This light, fresh, berry-scented cleanser will soon be your go-to for daily cleansing. It’s okay to smell good!

Bottom line...

This simple, yet super effective cleanser is everything you need, and nothing you don’t. Every ingredient in this cleanser serves a purpose to help cleanse, hydrate and soften your skin. It’s going to be a Good Day!
